Pinger – Ping IPv4 Address Online

The Ping utility helps to check if the destination IP is assigned to any device and responds, respectively. Simply enter an IPv4 address to send to the Internet.

What is IPv4?

IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) is the most commonly used form of an IP address. IPv4 addresses are 32 bits long and use DNS A records to map the host name to an IP address.

IPv4 was the first type of IP created in networks. They are short in number, and the maximum available to be assigned to devices is 4,294,967,296.

What is Ping?

In a computer network, data is sent in small blocks called packets. Each packet is transmitted individually and can take a different route to reach its destination.

Once all the packets of the original message arrive at the destination. All packages are reassembled to form the original message. But sometimes, due to some obstacles, such as network congestion, web server crash or some other technical error, there are chances that the message will not reach the destination.

We use two standard programs, Ping and Traceroute online, to diagnose obstructions, network failures or technical errors.

Ping

(Packet InterNet Groper) is a computer network management utility that helps check whether a particular IP address or domain is accessible on the computer network or not. It also measures round-trip time and reports errors.

The Ping tool uses the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo function detailed in RFC792. A small packet will be sent to the given IPv4 address. The packet contains 64 bytes, 56 bytes of data, and 8 bytes of protocol reader information.

Ping works by sending ICMP “echo request” (ping) packets

to the destination host and listening for ICMP “echo response” (pong) responses. According to RFC1122, “Requirements for Internet Hosts,” each host must send an echo response when ping.

However, that’s not always the scenario. Sometimes the firewall blocks the echo request to prevent distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, reduce host visibility, or even by mistake.

But publicly accessible IP addresses like 8.8.8.8 DNS Server always respond. Google doesn’t bother if you ping their DNS servers. Pinging Google or other global DNS servers is fine.

What is the main reason for pinging an IP address?

A ping test checks whether the device or host is connected or accessible on the network. The test checks whether the host or URL provided is online or offline and checks the delay between two computers. The Ping service sends multiple ICMP packets to an IP or domain and returns the detailed output. It also indicates how many packets were transmitted and how many were lost during that ping activity.

Various internet speed test tools also display ping results. A good internet speed test tool tries to create connections with multiple servers. However, the server with the lowest connection time runs the Internet speed test.

How to use online ping tool to ping IPv4?

The ping

IPv4 tool is similar to the ping IPv6 address tool. But it allows you to ping the IPv4 host.

To perform an IPv4 ping test, follow these steps.

Open online ping IPv4 address Enter the domain or IPv4 address and click the “

  • IPv4 Ping” button.
  • The tool pings the provided domain or IP address and gives the result.

The result will help you in several ways

.

  • If there is no data loss, the connection provided is secure and the IP is online
  • .

  • The equipped device or host suffers from unreliable connections if data is lost
  • .

  • Suppose a “timed out” request means that the ping IP address is incorrect or nonexistent. Or maybe the IP is offline, or the host configuration prevents you from responding to ping requests.
  • Suppose you provide an invalid domain or IP address; then the answer would be unpredictable. You may receive the error message “A host name could not be resolved.”

Note: The Online Ping tool uses the Network Tools infrastructure to run a ping test. You cannot use that tool to test internal addresses on your local network. Therefore, you need a local ping tool to check the availability of resources on the local network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it illegal to ping an IP address

? Pinging an IP address

is not illegal. An IP address is much like public information, but any abuse of IP address information is prohibited. To overcome that problem, it is best to hide your IP by using VPN. After connecting to VPN, it is better to check your IP, what is my IP, and your location using the IP address location tool.

What is a good ping?

A good and acceptable ping is about a mark of 40ms-60ms or less. However, if that exceeds 100ms, it’s a significant lag, and around 170ms, games will reject your connection altogether. If you have a ping of 10ms (0.01 seconds), your game will be faster and smoother than playing with a ping time of 100ms.

But it depends on the game you’re playing. Some games, such as Hearthstone, may not require a low ping. Other games like Counter-Strike and Street Fighter V require precise inputs and timings.
